Why do some people not need to replace their clutch plates even after 200000 kilometers? Someone needs to change after 100000 kilometers, but they didn't do it right
2025/7/25

Manual transmission vehicles need to step on the clutch when shifting gears, and the power transmission is completed through the combination and separation of the clutch plate and the engine flywheel inside the gearbox. Clutch plates are similar to brake pads and are easily worn parts, and their service life varies from person to person. Some people do not need replacement after 200000 kilometers, while others need replacement after 100000 kilometers.

This difference mainly stems from the following reasons. Driving habits, especially when starting, have a significant impact on the lifespan of the clutch. Novice drivers often experience rapid clutch wear when starting the vehicle due to improper coordination between the throttle and clutch. The clutch transmits power through friction with the flywheel, and severe wear only occurs in a semi clutch state, where the clutch plates rotate and rub simultaneously. Especially during start-up, due to the need for greater power, the accelerator is often excessively pressed, which exacerbates the wear of the clutch. The usage environment is also an important factor in clutch wear. On crowded roads, frequent starting or low-speed creeping of vehicles can prolong the semi clutch time and increase clutch wear. For example, when starting on a half slope, precise throttle control is required to prevent slipping, and excessive throttle pressure can accelerate the wear of the clutch plates.

However, on highways, the actual frequency of clutch use is very low, and wear is relatively reduced. The load on the vehicle also affects the lifespan of the clutch. When driving empty, the vehicle has a smaller burden and requires less power. When fully loaded, not only does it require a larger throttle for starting, but during normal driving when climbing or accelerating, the clutch plates also experience greater pressure and friction, leading to faster wear and tear. There is a significant difference in the quality of clutch plates among different brands. Some are harder and wear out slowly, while others are softer and wear out faster. This quality difference also directly affects the service life of the clutch plates. Therefore, in order to extend the service life of the clutch, the key is to improve driving skills, especially to achieve precise coordination between the throttle and clutch during start-up, to achieve a smooth start without excessively increasing the engine speed.
